Parish Website: www.drumlease-killargue.com Fr. John Me Tiernan ~ 071-9164143 / Fr. John Sexton ~ 071-9164131. Dromahair ~ Killargue ~ Newtownmanor Sunday 23rd August 2009 ~ The 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time. GENERAL / CHURCH NOTICES. [A] Special Collection for the Holy Land ~ Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th September: The background to this collection is that Christians in the Holy Land are facing a time of crisis. Within the last 40 years the proportion of Christians has plummeted from 20% to as little as 1.4%. Soon there will not be sufficient Christians to look after the Holy Places. Local Christians are ethnically Arab and so are treated as potentially hostile by the Israeli state, religious tours have practically ended in Palestinian areas, Bethlehem now has very few visitors, hotels have closed and the local economy has been devastated. The separation wall further isolates or imprisons local communities. Again this year, the Diocese of Kilmore proposes to contribute half of the ordinary Offertory Collection from the first weekend in September ~ Saturday &* & Sunday (P September ~ to support our fellow Christians in the Holy Land. Other Dioceses have special collections each Good Friday. Your contribution ~ and do adda little extra ~ will assist in the upkeep of churches in Nazareth, Bethleham & Jerusalem, schools in Bethlehem, homes for the elderly in Nazareth and parish centres. Do be generous! [B] Diocese of Kilmore ~ Marriage Preparation Courses: It is Diocesan policy that each couple • attends an ACCORD Pre-Marriage Course. Facilitators giving these courses undergo continued in-service training and supervision. And the sacramental aspect of marriage receives appropriate attention. It is a wise practice to do a course up to a year before the date of your marriage ~ a course only weeks before your wedding makes little sense! All couples are asked to note this request and make suitable & timely arrangements. [C] Breifne Historical Society ~ spanning the Diocese of Kilmore ~ has set up an interesting new web - site. Swine Flu -A (MINI) - is highly contagious & is transmitted (a) Largely person to person, spread by droplets from the respiratory secretions of infected individuals. (b) By contact with contaminated surfaces. Because of the method of contamination it is important not to sneeze or cough into other people's space or face. Use disposable tissues if coughing or sneezing & dispose of them as soon as ever possible. Clean hands are vital too. Keep them clean! The diocese recommends: l.That all those who have flu symptoms should not attend church services. 2. That clergy & ministers of the Eucharist use hospital type sanitizer. 3. That people read the HSE guidelines regarding precautions to take. Remember the HSE booklet sent to you? And the parish has decided that (i): We will dispense with the sign of peace for the time being. (ii): That all should receive Holy Communion in the hand to prevent cross contamination. To access Swine Flu information, visit the HSE website: www.hse.ie/eng/swineflu/ A former inmate of a Nazi concentration camp was visiting a friend who had shared the same ordeal. Have you forgiven the Nazis? he asked his friend. Yes, came the reply. Well I haven't. I'm still consumed with hatred for them. In that case, said his friend gently, they still have you in prison.
